While the most obvious visual of the seasons changing is coming soon, there are many other signs nature is preparing for the transition from summer to autumn. Professor of Biology at Central College Paul Weihe says while the fall color show begins, residents may also notice the sharp changes in behavior in animal life — whether they are migratory such as birds and butterflies, or gathering food for the long winter ahead and hibernation like many mammals. Weihe says living in Iowa provides residents the chance to see that in action more than many other places in the United States, due to the distinct season changes associated with living here.
