This fall Central College awarded each new incoming student — first-year and transfer — a donor-funded Journey Scholarship. This is the first time in the college’s history that it committed a scholarship to all new incoming students, irrespective of financial need.

“Our Central family of donors understands the importance of helping students attain a college degree,” says Sunny Gonzales Eighmy, vice president for advancement and a 1999 Central graduate. “I am personally so thrilled that our community has committed to support Central students. We live out our promise to students to welcome each with open arms and with open doors of opportunities in front of them for a lifetime. This is the Central way.”

Central’s donor base made it possible to offer all incoming students a Journey Scholarship. In 2021-22, $1.6 million was generated for Journey Scholarships. The college also offers hundreds of donor-funded endowed scholarships as well, meaning 98% of Central students receive financial aid to ensure access to education at Central. Through the support of donors, the college plans to continue awarding a Journey Scholarship to every future new student attending Central.
