The Knoxville Fire Department is preparing for Fire Prevention Week October 9th through the 15th.

There will be an Open House at the Fire Department Wednesday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. The event is to promote fire prevention, to let visitors tour the fire station and get a tour of the apparatus.

The fire department is starting an Explorer Post for the Knoxville Fire and EMS for those between the age of 10 and 20.

Knoxville Battalion Chief Trenton Bacus tells us the importance of the Explorer Post, “The Explorer Program I think is going to be a great thing for Knoxville. What we’re trying to do is get young people involved within the fire service. With this program we’re hoping to get high school aged kids to come in throughout high school, come to the training and stuff and learn about the fire service.”

More information on the Explorer Program will be available at the Open House Wednesday.
