Three area cross country squads will head to Leon for the class 1A State Qualifying Meet today. Twin Cedars, Melcher-Dallas and Pleasantville will all run in Leon. The Sabers are led by Rylee Dunkin who will try to become a four-time State qualifier. She has three wins this season. Also trying to qualify will be Cheyanne Bruns, who was just outside of the qualifiers last season. Bruns has won victory on the season ,which was at the Sabers last meet in Mediapolis. Melcher-Dallas and Pleasantville will also head to Leon tonight for the class 1A State Cross Country Qualifier. The Saints will have just one runner in Hailey Stegman, who has improved throughout the season. Coach Amy Stuart tells KNIA Sports the goal is for her to finish with her best time of the season no matter what place she comes home in. Pleasantville, meanwhile, enters the State Qualifier a week removed from running in the West Central Conference meet at Panorama. At the conference meet, the Trojans boys squad brought home a 9th place finish and the girls team finished in 10th place. Sophomore Kurt Kuhnen led the Pleasantville boys at Panorama with a 29th place finish while the Trojans top finisher in the girls race was senior Sophia Mason who came in 43rd. The girls race is set for 4:00 with the boys race to follow.
