With a confirmed sighting of a mountain lion in Indianola, the Iowa DNR wants to pass along safety tips in the rare event of an interaction. Iowa DNR Fur Biologist Vince Evelsizer tells KNIA News encountering a mountain lion is a rare event, and if you are planning on taking advantage of the trails and parks in Warren County, keep safety in mind.

“We encourage folks to take some common sense measures. So if you go out during low light either early in the day or at night running, biking, or hiking, have a light with you. Keep your eyes open, look around, be aware of your surroundings. If you have ear buds or something like that, it might be a good idea to keep one ear open to hear things around you, and just look around often.”

Evelsizer also said if you see a mountain lion, to contact the Iowa DNR as soon as it is safe to do so. For more information, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
