The Pella School Board reviewed the district’s curriculum development process at their meeting Monday. A discussion was led by Director of Instruction Lowell Ernst about the cycles of revision for both K-6 and 7-12 programs. A legal review of how House File 802 impacts teaching of potentially divisive subjects including race, sex, etc., was also held by the board, with specific guidance moving forward for both classroom teachings and staff training when it comes to diversity and inclusiveness. A first reading of new curriculum revision policies was approved. The board also discussed the official enrollment count for the 2022-23 school year, which will be the number used for per pupil funding in the upcoming fiscal year budget. Approximately 42 new full-time K-12 students are in the Pella Community School District this year.
