South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency (SCISWA) landfill in Tracy, will close to the public Monday November 21st for maintenance and reopen Tuesday November 29th.

Replacement of the landfill scale will disrupt regular operations and the Agency will not be  able to weigh incoming loads of residential waste. The landfill will not accept waste from anyone without a charge account, please plan accordingly.

Rick Hurt with SCISWA tells KNIA/KRLS about the closing , “We’re about ready to replace our scale. We’ve got a big large in-ground scale. With all the VA coming down it just put too much use on it and it’s time for a new one. So, we’re going to take it apart following our closure on the 19th. We’’ll be open Saturday, the 19th normal hours. As soon as we’re done that day we’ve got a contractor that will come in here and empty that thing out and take it down to the bare walls. Then our scale is going to start going in on the 21st.”

SCISWA encourages residents to use curbside collection programs available in their communities during this time. The landfill will reopen for residential waste disposal Tuesday November 29th. The SCISWA transfer station in Malcom, is not affected and will maintain regular operating hours and procedures.
