The Knoxville City Council approved bowhunting in the Westridge addition in town. The deer have been considered a nuisance in that part of town according to people living in the area.

Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery tells KNIA/KRLS News about the program, “The city currently has a deer population management program. Right now the zone allowed is for bowhunting only. It is in Westridge towards the back of the timber and there is a process that the city has to go through for residents to be allowed to be able to hunt on those grounds.”

For residents being allowed to hunt in the zone where the deer are a nuisance, they must obtain a permit from the city, notify adjoining property owners and go through a hunter’s proficiency course to insure they are proficient bowhunters.
