The Indianola City Council approved a rate increase for recycling pickup at their meeting Monday, increasing the rate by 22 cents. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News rates were raised to the city for pickup, and the city doesn’t charge any extra than what the rate requires. Reeves also said he wants residents to look at the recycling guidelines set forth by Waste Management.
“The important thing to probably stress here is to our residents, a significant portion, almost 30% of our recycling, actually gets tossed because people don’t segregate their trash appropriately and the recycling gets contaminated. So we really just want to encourage all of our residents to take a look at the Waste Management website and what is accepted waste so things can be recycled properly.”
