The Knoxville Police Department is providing a few winter tips to abide by when the snow ordinance is put into effect.

It is unlawful for any person to throw, push or place or cause to be thrown, ice or snow from private property, sidewalks or driveways onto the traveled way or right away of streets so as to obstruct gutters or impede the passage of vehicles upon the street. Or to create a hazardous condition, or to obstruct the view of traffic signs.

Knoxville Community Service Officer Merdith Clark tells KNIA/KRLS News, “A snow ordinance being put into effect actually happens from Chief Fuller. He will decide that, and it’s based on if we’re expected to get one inch or more of snow or ice.”

When the snow ordinance is in effect, people need to move their vehicles off the street. It ensures that the city plows can get through all the streets and get both sides.
