Norwalk wrestlers Tyler Harper and Dominic Tigner both notched a pair of wins by fall Thursday night as the Warriors finished 1-1 in a double dual at Oskaloosa.
Norwalk defeated the host Indians 66-7 and lost to Winterset 40-29, moving to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference duals.
In addition to Harper and Tigner going 2-0 on the night, Asaiah Martinez-Ruiz and Maddux Borcherding-Johnson both won by forfeit and by pin while Jake McKenzie won by pin and technical fall.
The Warriors finished 9-2 in contested matches against Osky, including six pins, one tech fall and a major decision. The pins were recorded by Harper, McKenzie, Donovan Card, Kadan Borcherding-Johnson, Tigner and Harrison Tripp.
Norwalk returns to action Saturday in Johnston for the Frank Baltzley Invitational at 10 a.m.
BASKETBALL AT PELLA CHRISTIAN
The Norwalk basketball teams will play at Pella Christian tonight, both seeking their first Little Hawkeye wins of the young season. The girl-boy doubleheader starts at 6:15 p.m. and will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS as well as the Pella Christian High School YouTube channel. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45.
The girls contest features the 0-3 Warriors against the 1-4 Eagles – both teams standing 0-1 in Little Hawkeye action. Norwalk is shooting 28 percent thus far in three consecutive 22-point defeats, but has competed with hustle and heart in totaling 20 steals and 32 offensive rebounds.
The Norwalk boys (1-1 overall, 0-1 Little Hawkeye) and Pella Christian (2-1, 1-0) are both looking to build off non-conference wins Monday night. The Warriors outlasted Winterset in overtime 62-56 – led by Braeden Carlson’s 21 points – while the Eagles routed PCM 67-39.
