The PCM basketball teams played their fourth road game in a nine-day stretch picking up a Heart of Iowa Conference split at Perry Tuesday, with the girls winning 43-31 and the boys falling 72-60.

In the girls contest, PCM got out to a great start, opening the game on a 12-0 run to grab a 12-2 advantage after the opening quarter. Perry fought back in the second period to pull the halftime score to 23-19, but the Mustangs went on a 14-4 run in the third quarter and never looked back in the 13-point road win to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Addison Steenhoek led PCM offensively with 12 points, while Paige Steenhoek also reached double figures with 11 points.

The Mustangs boys squad struggled to slow down Perry in the first half of the nightcap, falling behind 17-11 after the first quarter and 43-29 at halftime. Both teams scored 13 points apiece in the third period and PCM outscored the Blue Jays 18-16 in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit as they dropped to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Both the Mustangs basketball teams will get two days to rest before traveling to West Marshall on Friday for another Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader.
