Competing for the final time before Christmas Break the Pella Christian basketball teams will travel to different locations for their final contests of 2022.

The Eagles’ girls will make the short trip to New Sharon Monday to square off with North Mahaska. Pella Christian currently holds a 1-6 overall record after falling on the road at Grinnell Friday night, while the Warhawks improved to 6-1 behind their second consecutive three-win week. The Eagles scrimmaged North Mahaska before the season and head coach Jordan Dyk believes that will be an advantage for his team going into the matchup.

“I think the nice thing for us, and maybe for them too, is we scrimmaged North Mahaska to start the year. So, I think it’s not an unknown. We traveled there to scrimmage; we’re traveling there to play. We know where we’re going. We’ve saw North Mahaska too in the summer a couple times, at the Top 64. So, we know what we’re facing, we know the challenge ahead of us.”

The Pella Christian boys will make a much longer road trip on Monday, traveling to take on Wilton. The Eagles look to remain above .500, currently sitting at 3-2 overall on the season, while the Beavers are unbeaten at 5-0. Ranked at #4 by BCMoore, Wilton is led by senior post Caden Kirkman who is averaging 32.6 points per game. Pella Christian head coach J.D Boer knows his team faces a difficult test in this matchup but is excited for the challenge.

“Wilton’s a really good opponent, you know, Wilton’s a top five team in the state right now and they’re playing like it. They got a big man who’s outstanding, you know, I think probably one of the best players in the state is their big man scoring 30 points a game. So, our interior will be tested once again. So, that would be kind of fun to see how we respond to that.”

The Eagles’ girls game at North Mahaska High School Monday is set to tip-off at 6:30 p.m., while the boys game at Wilton High School is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
