Central College’s Joshua Van Gorp (junior, Pella, Pella Christian HS) is the American Rivers Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Van Gorp, a 6-foot, 10-inch center, notched his fifth career statistical double-double as the Dutch scored their fifth consecutive win, 70-58 at Cornell College Saturday. Van Gorp pumped in 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
It’s the longest win streak since 2015 for the Dutch (8-3), who were picked to finish eighth in the conference but are off to a 3-0 start.
Van Gorp ranks sixth in the NCAA Division III in field goal percentage at 68.8% and ninth in field goals with 86. He’s second in the league in rebounding with 8.5 per game. Van Gorp has also helped Central rank fourth in Division III in field goal percentage defense (35.9%), 16th in scoring defense (60.1), 10th in blocks per game (5.7) and 17th in rebound margin (10.0).
