The Simpson women’s and men’s basketball teams won their holiday tournament games Wednesday, the Storm women ending their five-game losing streak with an 86-58 win over Franklin and the Storm men earning a tournament win with a 69-65 win over Muskingum.
The Storm women trailed at the end of the first quarter 24-22, but clamped down defensively and only allowed 34 points the rest of the contest as they went on multiple double-digit runs to build a lead going into the fourth quarter. Cassie Nash led the team with 20 points.
The Storm men had to survive a frantic comeback from the Muskies, as the Storm had to fight tooth and nail throughout the contest to stay close, trailing 38-36 at halftime, then building a 12-point lead in the second half to seemingly take control, however a barrage of three’s and Storm fouls brought Muskingum back into the contest, but the Storm held on for the win.
The women are now 3-7 overall, and the men are now 9-2.
