Three Norwalk senior student-athletes took advantage of last week’s NCAA early signing period to confirm their commitments to the collegiate level.

On Wednesday, December 21, Maddux Borcherding-Johnson signed a national letter of intent to play football at the University of Iowa next fall. Warrior teammate Dillon Ranck signed with Iowa State University as a preferred walk-on in football. Ryan Jermier, meanwhile, signed with Division III Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to join the men’s golf team.

Borcherding-Johnson and Ranck were both named first team All-State in Class 4A this fall after helping the Norwalk football team to a 5-4 overall record. Borcherding-Johnson, a defensive lineman, finished the year with 32.5 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks while facing consistent double-teams from opposing offensive lines.

Ranck was one of the state’s top receivers with 54 catches for 903 yards and 13 touchdowns, including four TDs in a school record-setting 219-yard performance at Carlisle. He is the Warriors’ all-time leading receiver with 1,771 career yards.

Jermier finished his final season of fall golf with an 18-hole average of 80.1, capped by a 74 in the 4A District Tournament at Council Bluffs that was just one stroke away from qualifying for state.
