A public input session will be held tonight for the proposed Pella Rec Center project. At the event from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pella Public Safety complex, residents will have the chance to review current drawings for the project (can be viewed here online) and provide ideas for concepts ahead of public fundraising beginning.

Shive-Hattery — the Architectural and Engineering Services firm hired to develop concepts for the proposed indoor recreation facility, presented to the Pella City Council at last week’s meeting. The presentation details the types of amenities the facility could include, depending on cost:

78,000 square foot facility
• Four full-size basketball gymnasiums
• Recreation swimming pool
• Competition swimming pool
• Indoor walking track
• Rock climbing wall

No new cost estimates were provided at this meeting, but Mayor Don DeWaard says those will be drafted once a better idea of the scope of the actual project comes together after public input and further Pella City Council discussion.
