Panthers vs Cancer is a fundraiser in Knoxville that raises money for cancer awareness and support.
Last year Knoxville was able to raise over $48,000 to help fight in the fight against cancer. In addition to the varsity basketball games which will be played against the Chariton Chargers Saturday, January 21, there is a whole lot more to the event in Knoxville.
There will be alumni basketball games starting at 10 a.m. According to Tyler Pearson, the alumni games are expected to go until 1 p.m. Pearson noted the number of alumni games is down this year.
There will also be a silent auction which will be held Saturday all day in the Knoxville Middle School Commons. Just a few of the many items for the auction include some autographed items from Iowa State, UNI and Iowa. Knoxville Recreation Center has items to bid on as well as Blank Park Zoo and much more.
The pre-ordered Panthers vs Cancer t-shirts will be handed out Tuesday in the middle school commons. JV basketball teams from Knoxville and Charition will play prior to the varsity games.
A few individuals who have or are battling cancer will be recognized between varsity games.
