In a highly anticipated Little Hawkeye Conference basketball doubleheader Friday night in the Tulip City, Dallas Center-Grimes swept Pella, winning 49-34 in the girls game and 65-47 in the boys contest. Both were heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The class 4A top-ranked DCG girls scored the first ten points against the 10th-ranked Dutch, and led 15-2 at the end of the first quarter. It was 29-9 at halftime, and while Pella pulled within 12 in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs had one last surge to pull away.

Kylie Tauke’s 11 points paced Pella, who falls to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the LHC, good for third place after the first trip through the league.

It was a familiar, disappointing story for the Dutch boys. Just like in games against Pella Christian and Indianola within the last week, Pella started hot but couldn’t finish and dropped their third straight conference contest.

The Dutch bolted out to an 11-1 lead, and after DCG climbed within four, another Pella spurt pushed the lead to 24-13. The Mustangs clawed within two at the half and took the lead for good with a 10-0 run early in the third quarter.

Cam Schulte scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Luke Hardman tallied 13 points as the Dutch fall to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the LHC.

Up next for both Pella squads is a non-conference home doubleheader against Des Moines Christian on Tuesday night.
