The PCM basketball teams dominated the Saydel Eagles in a Heart of Iowa Conference sweep Tuesday night, as the girls won 49-39 and the boys won 70-50 in a doubleheader heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

A 22-point second quarter and 17 first half turnovers by Saydel propelled the Mustangs girls squad to a 32-14 lead at halftime. With the big lead, PCM began rotating players in and out of the lineup in the third quarter, and Saydel slightly cut the lead to 40-25 at the end of the period. The Eagles continued to claw back pulling within five points midway through the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs took back control of the game late to pull away for the 10-point win. Addison Steenhoek (21) and Tori Lindsay (19) combined for a big offensive night, scoring 40 of PCM’s 49 points in the win.

In the nightcap of the twinbill, the Mustangs boys team took control of the game early and never looked back. PCM scored 17 points in both the first and second quarters, while only allowing 10 points in each of those periods to take a 34-20 lead into the intermission. The Mustangs’ offense poured it on in the third quarter, erupting for 22 points to pull ahead 56-31 and cruised from there for the win. Gavin Van Gorp connected on nine of his 15 shots to score a game high 24 points, while Jacob Wendt and August Stock also reached double-figures with 14 and 13 points respectively.

The PCM girls are now 7-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play, and the boys improved to 4-11 overall and 3-6 in the league. Both the Mustangs basketball teams are now off until Friday, when they host Greene County in conference doubleheader.
