The Simpson Storm women’s basketball team played one of their best games of the season Saturday at Coe College winning 69-56, while the Storm men couldn’t muster enough offense to keep up with the Kohawks and fell 87-76 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm women started off slow but built momentum going into the later stages of the first quarter, going on a 15-0 run in the first half to take a 20-8 lead early in the second, but quickly gave up a similar run to Coe and only lead 30-27 at halftime. Offense picked up for both teams in the third, as the Storm could not miss from outside as they poured in layup after layup to build a 53-42 lead after the third, and keeping the Kohawks at bay in the fourth.

Assistant coach Claire Johnson said the Storm are continuing to ramp up, and they are improving leaps and bounds since the first run through of conference play.
Haley Rasmussen scored 19 to lead all scorers, while Cassie Nash had 17 points and 9 assists.

The Storm men had a back and forth first half with Coe, the teams trading the lead until the final minutes when Coe went on a run to take a commanding 42–30 lead at halftime. The Storm battled back to stay within seven points nearly the entire rest of the second half, but despite multiple defensive stops to try and get the deficit lower, they ran out of gas and couldn’t complete the comeback. Andrew Gibb had 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Andrew Curran had 14.

The Storm women are now 10-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while the men are 11-6 and 4-5.
