Dominic Tigner’s thrilling championship run at 152 pounds was the highlight for Norwalk on Saturday as the Warrior boys wrestlers finished 14th in a loaded 24-team field at Urbandale’s Ed Winger Classic.

Class 3A top-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock won the tournament with 200 points, followed by 3A No. 3 Southeast Polk with 187 and 3A No. 2 Bettendorf with 168.5. Norwalk scored 60.5 points and had three place-winners in the top six.

Tigner, who is ranked 10th in Class 3A at 152, had a day to remember. The sophomore placed first with a 4-0 record, including a pair of 3-1 wins in sudden-victory overtime and a 3-2 win over Class 1A 7th-ranked Maddox Nelson of Underwood in the finals.

Warrior junior Tyler Harper, ranked third at 106, went 4-1 with three pins on the day and placed third with a 3-2 decision over sixth-ranked Cale Vandermark of Ankeny Centennial.

Senior Donovan Card, ranked 11th at 138, placed sixth after going 2-3 with one pin.

Norwalk senior Maddux Borcherding-Johnson, who is undefeated and ranked No. 1 at 285 pounds, did not wrestle Saturday due to illness.

The Warriors will return to action Thursday, hosting Indianola in a Little Hawkeye Conference dual at 7:30 p.m.
