The Pella girls wrestling team is hopeful their road doesn’t end at the Iowa Events Center today in their inaugural season as they head to state qualifying. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Region 4 meet is where the Dutch will try to claim one of four state bids in each of their respective weight class brackets. Head Coach Adam Hale is hopeful for more history.

Among the wrestlers to watch for the Pella girls will be Emmalee Spurgeon — who has a 33-3 record overall and will be contending for a regional meet championship, as well as Elaine Babcock (23-12 record) and Serenity Turner (13-11 record). Pella’s veterans Elizabeth Thomas (13-7 overall) and Jasey Olson (20-17) will look to make it to the officially-sanctioned state meet next week in Coralville after participating in the Iowa Wrestling and Officials Association event one year ago.
