Pleasantville’s Madilyn Rowson qualified for the first sanctioned girls wrestling state tournament in Coralville Thursday. Rowson was third at the Regional 3 meet held in Des Moines. She was 4-1 at the regional with a 17-13 win, two pins and a 7-4 decision in the match for third place topping a girl from Dallas Center-Grimes.

Rowson is a Junior with a record of 21-10 overall. She will compete at the 155 pound weight class starting at 9 a.m. for the first round at state.

Rowson tells KNIA/KRLS News how she feels being the school’s first sanctioned girls state qualifier, “It’s really exciting and it’s really nice seeing all the support from everyone. It really makes me feel all the hard work that I’ve put in has paid off, and yeah it’s just pretty exciting.”

Pleasantville Coach Michael Koenig tells KNIA/KRLS News, Rowson has shown that she has the skills to compete in this sport even though it was her first year wrestling. She is a multi-sport athlete and that athleticism has helped her see great success on the mat. Finally, and above all, she’s just a great student-athlete that shows up everyday to work hard.
