The Pella Christian basketball teams begin their final week of regular season action tonight, hosting Dallas Center-Grimes in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.

The Eagle girls face a tough stretch to end the regular season, beginning with tonight’s matchup with the Class 4A #1 ranked Mustangs. Since falling to Class 5A #13 ranked Ankeny on January 17th, DCG has won five straight games with three coming by more than 30 points. Pella Christian struggled against the Mustangs a month ago, turning the ball over 22 times in a 62-23 loss. Eagles head coach Jordan Dyk knows DCG will be just as tough the second time around but believes reaching objectives in the game will help them prepare for postseason play.

“Let’s make some goals for ourselves. Let’s have goals that may not necessarily be to win, but how many turnovers can we get? Can we clear the rebounds? How many transition points are we going to give up? And try to keep that at a nice number that fits our style. It’s going to be tough, but I think we set some goals and if we can try to attain four or five things and feel good about our effort after the night’s done, then you take something away from that night.”

After a big bounce back win at Van Meter on Saturday, the Pella Christian boys are hoping to earn the season sweep of the reigning champions in Class 3A. The Eagles used a 43-point first half in the January 10th matchup to down the Mustangs 68-57. While Pella Christian got a big bounce back win this weekend, Dallas Center-Grimes has struggled as of late with four losses in their last five games.

Tonight’s doubleheader can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS and viewed live on the Pella Christian YouTube channel beginning with pregame coverage at 6:00 p.m. Tip-off of the girls game will follow at 6:15 p.m.
