The PCM basketball teams have their final doubleheader of the season tonight, as they travel to Jewell to face off with Heart of Iowa Conference foe South Hamilton.

In their final game before beginning regional play on Saturday, the Mustang girls will try to avenge their early season loss to the Class 2A #13 ranked Hawks. On January 6th, PCM faced then #11 ranked South Hamilton and nearly pulled off the upset behind a combined 33 points from sisters Addison and Paige Steenhoek, but ultimately fell 53-48. The Mustangs enter tonight’s game off one of their best performances of the season, dominating Roland-Story 54-36 on Senior Night Friday. With just two guaranteed games remaining for the PCM girls, head coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez says that she’s not worried about the excitement from Friday carrying over into tonight’s contest.

“I am not worried about it. We are gritty, we’re hungry, we’re finally getting things rolling. I hope that it’s way more than two games. The way we played tonight, I feel like we can win way more than two games.”

In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Mustang boys are also seeking a measure of revenge from their January meeting with the Hawks in Monroe. PCM got off to a slow start and despite trying to claw their way back into the game late, they fell to South Hamilton 62-48. The Mustangs have saved some of the basketball for late however as they nearly upset Class 2A #3 ranked Roland-Story on Senior Night Friday but fell 66-60. While PCM has played better as of late, head coach Fred Lorenson knows his team faces a tough test against the Hawks.

“Yeah, we played South Hamilton just the first week after Christmas and they smacked us pretty good here at our place, so we got a got a tough one there. We got to go out and again try to duplicate the effort that we had tonight and get after it and play hard.”

PCM’s basketball doubleheader at South Hamilton High School tonight begins with tip-off of the girls game at 6 p.m., with the boys contest to follow.
