The Central College basketball teams wrap up their American Rivers Conference home-slate today, hosting Luther College for a women’s-men’s doubleheader at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
The Dutch women are seeking to avenge their heartbreaking loss to the Norse on January 14th. Central and Luther needed an extra ten minutes of game action to decide a winner, with the Norse coming out on top with a 94-89 double overtime victory. In the loss, guard Kelsea Hurley (senior, Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS) scored a career high 32-points en route to becoming the 13th girl in program history to reach the 1,000-career point milestone.
In the back half of the doubleheader, the Central men are hoping to avoid a similar scare to what they received in Decorah in January. Luther, who was 0-7 in conference play at the time, were mere inches away from forcing overtime against the Dutch. With less than 10 seconds left, Central’s Kade Terrell connected with Drew Edwards on a full-court pass for the eventual game winning play. The Dutch held on for the 62-60 win, after Norse guard Andrew Lazinbat’s mid-range jumper rolled off the rim at the buzzer.
The Central basketball teams final home conference games of the season can be heard live this afternoon on 92.1 KRLS beginning with pregame coverage at 1:45 p.m.
