After dismantling Cardinal 61-35 Saturday night in the opening round of the Class 2A Regionals, the Pella Christian girls basketball team will look to pull off an upset tonight at undefeated and #3 ranked Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Eagles and Rockets are not strangers on the hardwood, having met 21 times since 2007 including an early season contest on November 29th, at Pella Christian. Just the second game of the season for Pella Christian, they struggled in a 67-42 loss against E-B-F, turning the ball over 28 times and connecting on just 33% of their shots. Eagles Head Coach Jordan Dyk knows handing the Rockets their first loss won’t be easy but believes there are ways to pull off the upset.
“You know, we’re going to have to rebound it really well. They play a lot of long players, even their guards are long. So, we’re going to rebound it well. And we’re overmatched at every position in that facet, to rebound it well. We’re going to have to make shots. But I think for our kids, if we could just play just a little bit better and compete hard and put some pressure on them then maybe we can steal it, but it’s going to take a great effort. You know, they’re a great team. They play five really, really good players, their one bench player is really serviceable off the bench that they play. So, we gotta battle.”
