The Simpson Storm gymnastics made history by hosting their first home competition Saturday, and the track and field teams were in action in addition to the men’s tennis team starting their spring schedule.

The men’s tennis squad fell to Illinois Wesleyan 9-0 and Principia 8-1, getting their only victory from Robles Solis at #2 singles who fell behind by dropping the first set 4-6, but then dominated the second to win 6-0, and won the tiebreaker 10-6 to win. Simpson will next play Saturday at Cornell.

It was a road trip to Brookings, South Dakota for the men’s and women’s track and field competition, where Spencer Moon had yet another record-breaking performance, as he broke the American Rivers Conference Indoor 5000 meter record with a 14:07.35 to also break the school record. The trio of Lara Kallem, Teghan Booth, and Ashley Rockhold also made the trip to South Dakota to compete in the women’s 3000 meters. Kallem clocked a time of 10:29.8 to move into fourth place in school history, while Booth finished right behind at 10:32.6 to take fifth in school history. Ashley Rockhold also went sub-11 minutes, recording a career-best 10:58.1 to move into 10th place all-time.

Michelangelo Villani won the all-around competition, Alex Catchpole claimed first on parallel bars, and the Simpson College men’s gymnastics team registered a season-best 359.200 at home against Greenville, falling just short however as the Panthers scored 373.350.

The Storm women were just shy of winning their first competition, falling to Greenville 184.025 to 181.850. Avery Ingram won her third all-around title, Brooklen Morgan, Kaelyn Tally and Wynter Poolaw all scoring a 9.500 to share the event title with Greenville’s Ellery Gilmer in the vault, and Emma Tolbert tied Greenville’s Rachel Miller for the top score on floor with a 9.550 from the anchor spot.
