Norwalk senior Emerson Fels has qualified for the Class 2A Boys Individual State Bowling Tournament.
Finishing strong with a 243 in his final game of the day, Fels placed eighth with a three-game series score of 580 at Tuesday’s 2A State Qualifying Meet held at Newton’s Cardinal Lanes. The top eight individuals advanced to next Wednesday’s state meet at Maple Lanes in Waterloo.
In the team competition, Norwalk placed fourth out of eight squads with a score of 2,632 pins following 15 rounds of Baker games. Fort Dodge (2,867) and Newton (2,763) qualified for state by placing first and second. The individual champion was Zach Reeck of Fort Dodge, who rolled a 685 series.
Fels opened his day with games of 175 and 162 before catching fire for a 243 that essentially punched his state meet ticket. Fels and sophomore Julia Palen, who on Monday qualified for the girls state meet, will both represent Norwalk in Waterloo on Wednesday, February 22.
