With a spot in the Class 2A Substate 6 championship on the line, the Pella Christian Eagles boys basketball team has a rematch of a early season contest with the Wilton Beavers tonight.
The Beavers opened postseason action on Friday night with a 83-61 win over Mid-Prairie, powered by a 25-8 second quarter. Behind 14 three-pointers, the Eagles began their postseason journey with a dominate 79-41 victory over Cardinal Friday. Pella Christian head coach J.D. Boer said that a three-point shooting performance like Friday night’s would be welcomed but believes the key to the game will be their play inside the arc.
“It would be great if we could shoot the ball like we did Friday night, that always helps. But rebounding is going to be a really big key in this game. And then I think just our interior defense will be challenged because of (Caden) Kirkman and some of those other guys that they bring. So, we’re going to have to protect the basket, we’re going to have to rebound really well and then hopefully knock down some shots and get the offense rolling.”
Prior to tonight’s game the Eagles and Wilton have met just one time in the Varsity Bound era, with that contest taking place earlier this season on December 19th. In that meeting at Wilton, Pella Christian snuck out of town with a 61-56 victory behind a 20-point effort from junior guard Tysen DeVries.
