The Indianola City Council approved the maximum property tax dollars to be collected by the city at their meeting Tuesday, setting the limit at $7,983,356 not including the debt service levy, 3.08 percent above last year. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the hearing sets the limit the city can collect, and the property taxes will be set at the upcoming budget hearing in April, and the council has proposed not raising taxes.
“With changes at the state legislature and things that are impacting our budget, our council is really wanting to hold the line and not raise our property taxes this year. In doing that we’ve been able to make some changes to our budget, hold off on some anticipated new positions that we’ve been looking at and considering, and ultimately the council is making it a zero increase.”
