Central College’s Kelsea Hurley (senior, Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS) and Allison Van Gorp (sophomore, Pella, Pella Christian HS) are repeat selections on the American Rivers All-Conference Women’s Basketball Second Team.
Hurley, a 5’11” guard, is a four-time pick, receiving first-team distinction in 2021 and second-team honors three times. She’s only the second player in program history to be a four-time honoree. Guard Molly Parrott was selected four times from 1999-2002. A two-time team MVP, Hurley pumped in a career-high 32 points at Luther College Jan. 14 to become the 13th Central player to reach the 1,000-point mark in her career. She finished 10th in school history with 1,128 points. Her 50 3-point goals this year rank ninth on the school charts and she hit 164 for her career, which ranks second. Hurley ranked third in the conference in 3-pointers per game (1.9). For the season she averaged 13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists while leading the team with 1.1 steals. She shot a team-high 88.8% from the free throw line, which ranked third in the conference, and posted three double-doubles.
Van Gorp, a 6’3” center, was chosen for the second time. She averaged 12.3 points and was third in the conference in rebounding with 8.9. Van Gorp led the conference in blocked shots with 1.6 per game and shot a team-high 48.9% from the field. Named the conference player of the week Jan. 23, she recorded six double-doubles.
As first-year coach Moran Lonning’s squad built momentum for the future, the Dutch posted an 8-17 overall record with a 5-11 conference mark. Central will return four starters for next season.
