The Indianola Police Department’s new K9 unit is currently in training. Police Chief Brian Sher tells KNIA News the dog, named Kilo, is half Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd. Officer Trey Nixon was appointed as K9 Officer, and Chief Sher says the department could not be more excited to get the new K9 unit up and running.

“I’ve talked to Trey every day since he’s been in training, and he’s sent me videos every day, and they are doing an absolutely wonderful job at training so far. Everything I’ve seen and heard through just three days (recorded on March 9th), and I’ve already sent some videos out to the city council to give them an update. It’s another program we brought to council and received full support, and we appreciate it so much. This dog is going to be a great tool.”

The dog will help with drug enforcement, locating missing persons and suspected criminals, and more.
