This week is Poison Prevention Week, a week set aside in March each year to help raise awareness of poison prevention nationwide, in addition to highlighting the dangers of poisonings for people of all ages and promote community involvement in poisoning prevention. The Indianola Fire Department recommends several ways to help safeguard your home, including keeping medicines and harmful substances locked up and out of reach, keeping medicines in original containers, wearing gloves for cleaning, and maintaining a working carbon monoxide detector. The department also recommends that if anyone is in doubt if someone has ingested or been exposed to harmful chemicals, to not hesitate to call poison control.
