The Indianola High School gym was packed to near capacity on the bleachers Tuesday evening as the Warren County Board of Supervisors held the public hearing on the FY2024 Maximum Property Tax Dollars. The board heard from nearly 20 speakers from the public with hundreds of Warren County rural residents in attendance, who raised concerns about the rural basic tax rate possibly going up significantly. Property tax rates are currently in flux due to raising costs in wages, transportation and fuel, and materials, in addition to possible changes by the Iowa Legislature.

Residents also brought up concerns regarding transparency of the discussions regarding the tax rate, inflation, rural road conditions, and rural services.

The Maximum Property Tax Dollars was approved by the board in a 3-0 vote, with the budget public hearing where the actual property tax rate will be determined will take place in mid-April.
