The Knoxville Boys Tennis program will be largely inexperienced this season. 13 players greeted new coach Kevin Wadle for practice last week. While there is some experience coming back from last season, Wadle tells KNIA/KRLS Sports there is a lot of fundamental teaching and working on the basics in anticipation of the first meet.
Wadle: “We have a lot of fundamentals to work on and work on basic things. I hope from their perspective things are going well. What I’m seeing from body language and the work they’re putting in, I think it’s new in the new stage so it’s fun, but we haven’t had that first meet so we might learn a few things.”
Junior Joe Ferguson will return who was half of the conference doubles champion last season. Connor Leslie, a senior, will return as well. Wadle adds he is looking to sort out who fits into a varsity slot by the first meet. That first meet will be next Thursday against state power North Polk.
