The Indianola City Council meets in a special session Thursday evening, to consider a resolution regarding the agreement between the City of Indianola and the Indianola YMCA.
The facility was built in 2012 after Indianola voters approved a $12.5 million bond to finance construction of the wellness center, with the city owning the building and the YMCA paying a monthly rent. The YMCA faces continuing financial issues today which was publicly announced in 2019, when they requested the Indianola School District and Simpson College pay for the use of the pool by the swimming teams despite putting up funds for the initial construction with an agreement in place that the teams would be able to use the facility.
The council will consider a resolution where the YMCA shall relinquish its exclusive right to use and operate the facility on July 30th, 2023. The council meeting will be in the city council chambers at Indianola City Hall beginning at 6pm.
