The Children’s Group, Pathfinders composed of nine third through fifth graders, organized a service project to benefit cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.

The group selected their cause, they wanted to do something to help cancer patients. Then they organized a meal to be served during Knoxville First United Methodist Church’s Lenten Dinners in March where all the proceeds would go towards purchasing care bags that the Knoxville Hospital staff are planning to put together for their cancer patients.

The kids served walking tacos on March 8th to around 90 people. Lori Bailey gave a moving testimony about her journey with cancer during their meal. The kids did all the food preparation, serving, and bussing tables during the event.

They also made crafts to sell at their dinner. The children also decorated pocket hugs, which are small wooden shapes the kids painted with an uplifting and inspiring message to help cancer patients get through their treatments.

Knoxville Hospital and Clinics received a check for $588 that was raised through their fundraising efforts. The group raised funds for providing “Care Bags” that will be given to cancer patients undergoing treatments at the clinic.
