The Indianola boys soccer team is 1-1 to start the early portion of the season, which includes a 1-0 win over reigning state champion Lewis Central. Last season, the Indians had a 6-12 record, with four of those losses coming by 1 goal. Head coach Heath Weeks said the experience gained in seeing those close games will go towards trying to flip that script for this year.
“In terms of the game experience and being in those situations against tough teams, whether it is chasing a team from behind a goal or being in a position where we are up a goal against a tough team. That was really good for the group, and the players carrying that experience forward will be ready to take the next step and see out maybe a close 1-0 game against a tough team. That is really the next step for us, turning those losses into close wins.”
The soccer squad will next play this weekend in the Urbandale Invitational Tournament.
