Dust control is applied twice a year in Marion County the first application is May 15th and the second application is July 15th. 

To apply for dust control, you need to contact one of the four approved vendors for Marion County. The four are Binns and Stevens Sprayers, Smith Fertilizer and Grain, Heffron Services and Jerico Services. 

The deadline for the first application is April 15th. The deadline for the second application is June 15th. No late applications will be accepted.

Flags can be picked up at any County Shop, or at the Engineer’s Office. Flags must be up by April 15th and maintained by the customer until October 1st. 

Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian tells KNIA/KRLS News, “Just contact your vendor. If you want to see the list of approved vendors for Marion County you can visit marioncountyiowa.gov and there is a list of four approved vendors and also the dust control policy there that details what the residents responsibilities and the vendor responsibility and what responsibilities the county retains.”

Roads will be prepped for dust control prior to each application. Marion County reserves the right to maintain the road within a dust control area should there be a safety concern for the traveling public. Dust control season ends October 1st and regular maintenance will resume.
