It is a busy day for Knoxville spring sports athletes as seven of the eight varsity teams are in action today. Boys and girls tennis will play Centerville. The boys will travel while the girls will host at the Joel Tonda Tennis Courts. For the Panthers they likely are not the favorites for the South Central Conference title this season but Coach Nick DeMoss tells KNIA/KRLS Sports after Davis County, he says 2nd-6th place could be up from grabs.
DeMoss: “Albia lost their top 6-8 players, so they’re rebuilding like we are, Centerville and Chariton have new coaches. Clarke is Clarke, they have 10 players out that usually are pretty good, and they beat the Oskaloosa state team and they both return.”
First serves are set for 4:15. Meanwhile, the boys and girls track and field squads are at the 95th Oskaloosa Relays while the soccer squads will head their separate ways. The girls head to Creston for a non-conference match. The Panthers are looking for their first win of the season after starting the season 0-2 and are coming off a 5-1 loss to Pella Christian on Monday. The boys are looking to start the season at 3-0 for the 1st time since the 2019 season when the Panthers started 5-0 and made the State Tournament. The Blue Demons are having their season opener after seeing their first match called off last Friday due to weather. The girls are set to start at 5:30 while the boys get underway at 7:00 at Randy Wilson Track in Knoxville.
