Since 2006, the Melcher-Dallas Dollars for Scholars, a non-profit organization benefiting the Melcher-Dallas Community School District seniors, has provided scholarships to 147 students totaling over $160,000. With sponsorship provided by the Lions Club Charity of Melcher-Dallas, students are given an opportunity to work for and earn funds for college.

Kina Mann with the Melcher-Dallas Dollars for Scholars said the scholarships at the school are based on “sweat equity” rather than academic merit.

Scholarship funds are largely raised by the participants through fundraising efforts. Mann said the donations are tax deductible.
