The Indianola boys track team came in third at their home meet while earning an automatic qualifier to the Drake Relays Thursday. The Indians girls track team competed at Ankeny, while the girls and boys tennis teams fell to Pella.
The boys track and field squad scored 106 team points, falling only to class 4A powers Waukee Northwest and Waukee, while earning multiple top finishes including Logan Piper in the 400m Hurdles, who crossed the Drake Blue Standard with a 1st place finish in 54.47 seconds. Piper also finished in 2nd in the 110m Hurdles. Bennett Brueck won the high jump, Jonce Hale was 2nd and Eli Fox 3rd in the 100m Dash, and the 4×100 Relay placed 2nd. Hunter Seifrig in the 800m, Sprint Medley Relay, Shuttle Hurdle Relay, 4×200 Relay, and 4×400 Relay all placed 3rd. Head Coach Matt Oliver said it is always fun to compete at their home meet, and the Indians have a young team this year and will continue to try and improve towards the end of the season. Indianola will wait until next week to compete again, traveling to Urbandale on Tuesday.
The Indians girls track and field team had several PR’s in the throws, including a 2nd place finish from Kendall McDaniel in the Shot Put, while Abby Kluver and Ava Tichy each had a PR in the discus. Kiley Kindelspire was 6th in the 100m Dash with a time of 13.55, Jordyn Brown ran her 2nd best run with a time of 5:05 in the 1500m, while the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team also placed 3rd. Full results will be posted as they become available. The Indians will next race tomorrow at Valley.
The Indianola girls tennis team fell to Pella 9-2 at home Thursday, with the Indians victories coming from the doubles pairings of Audra Dowler and Ceris Askelsen at #3 doubles, and Audrey Troutman and Macy Lerseth at #5 doubles. The Indians travel to Oskaloosa on Tuesday. The Indians boys fell to Pella 11-0. They get back on the courts today at Southeast Polk.
