The Simpson Softball team was swept in an American Rivers Conference doubleheader by #21 Coe College Saturday, 6-1 and 4-1 in a pair of games heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm couldn’t get out of their own way in game one, out-hitting the Kohawks 5-4 overall but giving up four unearned runs. The Kohawks scored four runs in the first inning, and didn’t allow a Storm runner past 2nd base until the 6th inning when Maddie Luderman hit a solo shot to center field. Storm pitcher Taryan Barrick-Wessels pitched a complete game only giving up four hits, but walks and defensive errors led to the tough luck loss.

Game two was much of the same, as the Kohawks took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs scored due to a walk and a missed catch in foul territory that could have ended the inning. Simpson got a run back on a Luderman RBI single, but that would be all the Storm would muster and they would give up another pair of unearned runs to get to the final tally. Madi Peterson took the loss in the circle.

Luderman was 3-6 on the day with a home run and two runs batted in. Simpson falls to 18-8 overall and 1-3 in American Rivers Conference play, and have a crucial doubleheader against Central on Tuesday.
