Sunday at 1:53 a.m. the Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched to the 400 block of West Montgomery Street for a reported structure fire. 

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the porch. Crews started to investigate the porch to find fire behind the exterior wall of the residence. Crews worked to extinguish the fire by removing siding and applying water to the structure behind the siding. 

The resident had attempted to extinguish the fire by using buckets of water before the arrival of the first engine.

The fire started in the porch area of the home and was considered accidental. The fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking material. Estimated damages from the fire is around $3,000. The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Knoxville police department.
