Norwalk batted 5-for-5 in spring sports action Tuesday night, notching impressive wins in girls and boys soccer, girls and boys tennis and girls golf.
The Warrior boys soccer team earned their first win of the season, shutting out Class 1A 13th-ranked Pella Christian 5-0 on the home pitch. Jack Brown and Noah Buhrow both scored two goals for Norwalk and Tavin Ferner also found the back of the net. Assists were recorded by Buhrow, Ferner, Drake Stageman and Keilor Rodman.
The Warriors attempted 16 shots on goal, including six for Brown, compared to just one for Pella Christian. Norwalk, which totaled just four goals combined in the season’s first three games, improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Eagles fell to 2-2 and 0-2, respectively.
The Class 2A 12th-ranked Warrior girls soccer team won 4-1 at Pella Christian, breaking a 1-1 halftime tie with three second-half goals. Sophomore Braelyn Clark kicked in three goals for her first hat trick of the year and Addison Burch also scored. Reese Trebilcock, Addy Wood and Alayna O’Connor had assists. Norwalk racked up 42 total shots and 24 on goal – led by Clark’s 15 and eight – improving to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Both Norwalk tennis teams won big over Grinnell. The boys prevailed 10-1 on the road as Hayden Steele, Adrian Bush, Austin Mills, Braylon Stockwell and Drew Chambers all won their singles and doubles matches in straight sets. The team is now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Little Hawkeye duals.
The Warrior girls improved to 2-0 with a 9-2 home win over the Tigers. Anya Kallenbach, Ava Johnson, Katie Larson and Sami Aagard all won in singles play. Kallenbach used third-set tie breakers to win in both singles and doubles, where she teamed with Kelsey Dammeier. Also winning third-set tie breakers were the doubles teams of Madison Haskell and Johnson as well as Katie Thielen and Sutton McNelly.
The Norwalk girls golf team defeated Grinnell by 10 strokes (204-214) in their first dual meet of the season at Oakland Acres Golf Club. Warrior sophomore Lydia Krueger earned runner-up medalist honors with a round of 49 while teammates Ava Garvey and Ruby Hoch both carded a 51. Norwalk cut eight strokes off their score from last week’s Newton Invitational.
