After seven of the eight spring sports teams from Pella High School shared an evening of competition Tuesday, the competitors will spread out over the next three days in a variety of competitions, mainly on the road.
Today, the Pella girls track and field team heads to the Randy Wilson Track in Knoxville at 4:15 p.m., while the #8 in 2A girls soccer squad will head to Carlisle, with varsity beginning at 7:00 this evening. Seniors Anneka Stoltzfus and Haley Van Houweling — who will be featured on next week’s KNIA/KRLS Radio Sports Page, say this early season stretch is a good test as they figure out more of their identity.
On Friday, the two day Dutch Masters Invitational brings together some of the best boys’ golf teams in the entire state at Bos Landen for day one (starting at noon) and the Pella Golf and Country Club on day two (starting at 8:30 a.m.). This year’s field includes: Adel DeSoto Minburn, Clear Lake, Des Moines Christian, Nevada, Oskaloosa, Pella Christian, Solon, Washington (IA), Waverly-Shell Rock, and West Delaware — which accounts for six of the state’s top 15 scoring average teams heading into this week regardless of class.
Later on Friday, the Pella girls tennis team is also in action in a makeup with Knoxville, with competition starting at 4:15 p.m. at the Joel Tonda Tennis Complex.
Pella’s track and field teams will face the best competition they’ll see all season Saturday when many of their athletes make the first of three trips to Drake Stadium at the Jim Duncan Invitational. The showcase highlights the best athletes from the Central Iowa Metro League in Class 4A — and new this year and in the future, the Little Hawkeye Conference and Raccoon River Conference. Events start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday — click here for a full schedule and more details.
