The Indianola City Council held a discussion around noise and parking ordinances at their meeting Monday, reviewing the city code regarding restricting noise from vehicles and work vehicles parked in residential neighborhoods. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the council discussion partially centered around louder vehicles such as motorcycles being started in the early hours of the day, or a large work truck parked in a residential street.

“It comes down to, we don’t want to impede people’s ability to do work, to go to work, to have their work vehicles. But at the same time, it comes with showing respect to our neighbors. So if you are starting your vehicle really early or really loud or revving up your vehicle, people sometimes want to push the limit to the very maximum because their neighbor has been in their face a little bit. If we can all take the high road and show mutual respect, trying to keep the engine noises as soft as possible, being respectful of our neighbors and how we park and treat each other, that goes a long way for us as a city staff and especially elected leaders in not trying to impose new regulations.”

The council did not pass the proposed resolution.
