sinkhole-2

On April 14th, the Marion County Road Department was made aware of a sinkhole roughly 30 feet in diameter and roughly 20 feet deep located approximately 650 feet south of the residence at 1776 135th Place.

The sinkhole lies partially within the Marion County public right of way of 135th Place in the east ditch. Following the notification, the Road Department deemed it necessary to close the road back on April 14, and notification was made to all Emergency Service providers.

The sinkhole is now roughly 35-40 feet in diameter, elongating more east and west than north and south. On Wednesday, Marion County met with various County and State agencies to develop a plan to investigate the cause of the collapse and to mitigate the sinkhole.

Marion County Emergency Management Assistant Emily Feagins  tells KNIA/KRLS News, the sinkhole is still shifting some so people are advised to stay away from the area until the road reopens.
